The trip has started off strong! As with almost every international trip i embark on i have been tremendously delayed. I drove to the Austin airport in a severe thunderstorm and missed all my connections. Awesome. Now instead of 24 hrs of travel i am going to be travelling for 33 hrs. Southeast asia is on the exact opposite side of the world of TX (a twelve hour time difference) so it takes awhile to get to and away from.
The benefit of the delay is that i have been bumped me into business class and I am writing this message from the Cathay airlines business class lounge in LAX. It isn't much more than a glorified trailer but they have complimentary drinks and computers.
Andrew, you are right! Almost every trip you take is delayed for some reason or other. I haven't heard the whole story about the missed connection (was it the airlines problem?), but at least you were able to fly business class. That's a big plus. I will be anxious to hear more about your first days in Bangkok and your visit to the temple. Looking forward to your next email!! Love MOM
Jeesh - I just figured out which button takes one to comments vs email. So....Hi, you two!! Andrew, by now C's undoubtedly told you about the similar flight mishaps she and her cousin experienced when they made the same trip. Maybe Bangkok, as a destination, is jinxed :0)So glad you're now within arms reach of each other and beginning your land-based (vs air) adventures.
Caitlin, my mental picture of you two tossing back a couple of beers at your guest house, then heading out to see the sights, made me smile.
I think I'm in love with this mode of communication already. Can't wait for future updates and pictures!
